ODM MP Grieves Over Sudden Death of His Son
Suna West MP Peter Masara is grieving the death of his son, a tragedy that has deeply shaken his family and community.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), under which Masara was elected, conveyed its condolences on Monday, June 30.
“We commiserate with Hon. Peter Masara, MP for Suna West, for the loss of his beloved son Hillary,” the party said in an official statement.
ODM further added, “We pray for Mheshimiwa and his family to receive God’s grace, strength, and fortitude during this trying period.”
Initial reports of the loss began circulating on social media on Sunday, as residents of Suna West sent messages of sympathy to the grieving legislator. Though the circumstances surrounding Hillary’s death remain unclear, it is believed that the loss was sudden.
Masara’s loss adds to a series of recent bereavements within ODM. Earlier this month, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro announced the passing of his father on June 14—coinciding with Father’s Day.
The party also mourned West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi Ong’ondo, who was fatally shot on April 30, and former Malava MP Malulu Injendi, who died on February 17 after prolonged treatment in ICU.
Though Peter Masara has kept much of his private life out of the spotlight, tragedy struck his family in 2020 when his brother was found dead at his residence in Oruba village, Suna West. It was later revealed that he had been battling tuberculosis.
Despite his personal challenges, Masara continues to enjoy strong support from his constituents. A recent performance report ranked him among the top-performing members of parliament in Kenya.
