Woman Dies, Man Hospitalized After Lorry Crashes Into Pedestrians at Likoni Ferry
A fatal accident at the Likoni Ferry Crossing Channel in Mombasa on Friday night left one woman dead and another man seriously injured after a lorry lost control and struck pedestrians.
The incident, reported at approximately 7:15 pm, involved a lorry transporting building blocks.
According to the police report, the driver, identified as Bakari Gonga, was descending the mainland ramp toward the ferry when the vehicle veered off course, running over two individuals.
The woman, whose identity is yet to be established, died on the spot. The male pedestrian, who suffered severe fractures in both legs, was rushed to Likoni Sub-County Hospital for emergency treatment.
The deceased’s body has been moved to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary, while the lorry involved in the tragedy is now impounded at the Likoni Police Station as investigations continue.
