Why Wearing Socks to Bed is Beneficial to Your Health

Everyone has their own sleeping patterns. Some people only sleep in their pyjamas, while others prefer to sleep in oversized t-shirts, and still others prefer to sleep naked. What about your feet, though?

Do you sleep in socks or are you one of those people who thinks wearing socks in bed is insane, uncomfortable, and just plain wrong? Your preferences are valid, but we’re here to tell you that there are plenty of reasons (and dare we even call them benefits) to sleep in socks.

1. You Will Fall Asleep More Quickly

If you have trouble falling asleep, this could be a good solution for you. Wearing socks to keep your feet warm will help you fall asleep faster.

A 2007 study compared the amount of time it took people to fall asleep with and without socks. Those who were wearing socks fell asleep much faster than the others.

2. You Will Not Perspire

Some people experience hot flashes in the middle of the night, while others experience cold sweats in the early morning hours. It turns out that simply wearing socks to bed can prevent this.

It’s also especially useful for people who frequently have cold feet. Warming your feet dilates your blood vessels, allowing your blood to circulate more efficiently and thus better regulate your body temperature.

3. You Will Not Experience A Raynaud’s Attack

Have you ever awoken in the middle of the night with a strange throbbing sensation in your toes or feet? Raynaud’s phenomenon is linked to Raynaud’s disease.

What happens is that you lose circulation in certain aerials, most often fingers and toes, causing them to swell and throb. However, wearing socks causes your blood vessels to dilate, which improves your circulation.

4. You’ll Have More Satisfaction in Bed

Several studies have been conducted to compare couples who wear socks to bed with those who do not. Couples who have made love with their socks appear to be satisfied 75% of the time, while those who do not wear socks appear to be satisfied only half of the time. So, if you want to improve your love life, why not try it with socks on?

5. Your Feet Will Be Smoother

We can all agree that cracked heels are not cute. Furthermore, having dry heels is extremely uncomfortable; the sensation of them catching on the sheets is the worst.

While pedicures are a great way to address this issue, you can also address it by putting a lot of moisturizer on your feet and wearing socks to bed. Try it; you’ll wake up with beautiful feet that are smoother and softer than the day before.

6. Things to Remember

While sleeping with socks on has numerous advantages, such as making you feel cosy and warm and improving your circulation, thermoregulation, and skin condition, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First and foremost, make sure your socks are clean; wearing dirty socks to bed will only encourage bacteria to grow and multiply, which is bad for your feet. Second, make certain that your socks are soft and not too tight. Wearing tight socks to bed may actually worsen your circulation, which defeats the purpose of wearing socks to bed.
