Why Mt Kenya’s Silence Speaks Louder After My Ouster
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence on the reaction from Mount Kenya following his impeachment, assuring supporters that the region’s political direction remains steady. Addressing a gathering in Limuru, Kiambu County, on Friday, Gachagua sought to calm any anxieties, urging the community to remain patient and united.
“I want to tell the people from our region not to get worried,” Gachagua said. “Many people are calling me, asking what will happen. Please, don’t worry; our community is very unique, and many people are shocked by our response.”
Gachagua applauded the people of Central Kenya for their composure in the wake of his controversial ouster, noting that many had anticipated a more volatile response. The former DP explained that while leaders from other regions may have prompted public demonstrations, his community’s reaction defied such expectations.
“They expected people to go to the streets, lighting fires, destroying vehicles, and shouting. That’s not who we are,” he stated. “These people don’t know us well. When we feel offended, we keep quiet. If you feel so offended that you must express yourself, do it through songs or dance.”
His remarks come amid speculation about his future in politics, with some analysts suggesting his removal from office could mark the end of his political journey. However, Gachagua remains resolute, encouraging his supporters to maintain their trademark calm and focus on the path forward.
