Larry Madowo’s Work History

Larry Madowo’s first foray into the media world was an internship at a vernacular radio station called Bahasha Fm in 2007.

His job required him to read English-language reports.

Larry dropped out of college one and a half years later to work at the Kenya Television Network in Nairobi (KTN).

He left KTN three years later as a Business anchor and reporter for NTV.

Larry began working for CNBC Africa, a station based in Johannesburg, South Africa, in May of that year.

He launched the prime-time program “Eye of Kenya,” which became a huge success, as one of the station’s primary anchors.

Six months later, in December of that year, NTV rehired him as a news anchor and technology editor.

That’s when he decided to go back to school. In June 2014, he graduated from Daystar University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

During his second stint at NTV, he was allowed to work as a freelancer for the BBC, Public Radio International, France 24 English, and CNN International.

As a result, he gained a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience.

When the Kenyan government shut down four major commercial television stations, The Daily Nation initially refused to publish his editorial on the subject.

Regardless, CNN published a similar report in early 2018. Larry is no longer a weekly columnist for the Washington Post; instead, he is a Contributing Columnist for the paper’s Global Opinion section.

Larry was named Business Editor at a BBC News Africa press conference on April 11, 2018, leading a team of business reporters from Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lagos, Dakar, and London.

Larry started his new job on April 12 and stayed for a while before leaving for a lucrative job at CNN.
