Vehicle Linked to Murder of Three Somali Family Members Recovered in Nairobi
Detectives have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the brutal abduction and murder of three family members, whose bodies were discovered after disappearing from Eastleigh, Nairobi. A motor vehicle, believed to have been used in the crime, was recovered at Ukulima Market in Kamukunji.
The discovery comes as homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters interrogate a Somali woman who claims she was abducted alongside the three victims.
According to the woman, their abductors demanded a ransom, and her family paid Ksh. 1 million into an Ethiopian bank account, securing her release. However, the victims did not survive the ordeal, and she now serves as a crucial witness in the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings from the investigation reveal that the victims’ mobile phones were traced within Eastleigh on the night of the abduction before moving to various locations in Nairobi, including General Waruinge, Hombe Road, and Pangani. Investigators suspect that after the killings, the suspect disposed of the bodies at different locations.
The bodies of two victims, Nuseiba Abdi and Amina Abdirashid, were discovered in Bahati and Parklands, respectively. Meanwhile, the severed hands of the third victim, Warris Daud, were found in South C, with her body later dumped in Kyumbi, Machakos County.
Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage and payment details from a petrol station, where the suspect allegedly fuelled the vehicle during this gruesome journey. Complicating the case further, police are also probing the involvement of Warris Daud’s husband, who resides in the United Kingdom with a second wife. Authorities are questioning whether this second wife, who had recently traveled to Kenya, may have had any involvement in the murders.
The Somali community in Eastleigh has responded with outrage, mourning the loss of the three women and demanding swift justice. In protest, traders shut down their shops as a symbol of grief and solidarity.
As investigations intensify, detectives revisited the crime scenes in Parklands and Kyumbi on Thursday to reconstruct the events surrounding the murders. An autopsy of the three victims is scheduled for Friday, with their burial to follow at Lang’ata Cemetery.
