US rapper Fatman Scoop has tragically passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during a concert in Connecticut. The hip-hop legend was performing at Town Center Park in Hamden on Friday when he suddenly fell to the stage. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Scoop could not be saved.
The news was confirmed by his booking agency, MN2S, in a heartfelt statement to the BBC. “Scoop was a beloved figure in the music world, whose work was loved by countless fans across the globe,” a spokesperson shared. “His iconic voice, infectious energy, and great personality made an indelible mark on the industry.”
Fatman Scoop, born in New York City, was a major influence in the 1990s hip-hop scene. He was known for his distinctive voice and high-energy performances, which brought hits like Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That” to life. His 1999 track “Be Faithful” became a global anthem, topping charts in the UK and Ireland after its re-release in 2003.
Scoop’s presence extended beyond music. In 2004, he appeared on the UK TV series Chancers and later competed in Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA in 2015. His sudden passing has left fans and peers alike mourning the loss of a true entertainment icon.
