UDA MCA Fights for Life After Lung Failure As Murang’a Governor Appeals for Help
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata made a heartfelt appeal on Tuesday, urging the public to come together in support of Mark G. Wainaina, a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who is facing a life-threatening lung condition.
Wainaina, who has been diagnosed with a severe pulmonary disease, is now in urgent need of financial support as his lungs have completely failed, and he is under intensive care.

In a public statement, Governor Kang’ata called for contributions to assist in Wainaina’s costly treatment. “The Murang’a County Assembly Members Caucus invites you to a fundraising dinner in aid of Hon.
Mark G. Wainaina, who has been diagnosed with a severe pulmonary disease that has led to total lung failure,” he shared.
The fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, November 15, at Nairobi’s Sagret Hotel in Milimani, aims to rally support from both local and national well-wishers. According to Wainaina’s brother, who spoke with Kenyans.co.ke, the MCA’s health recently deteriorated, leading the family to seek urgent help from the public.
Sharleen Wambui, a fellow MCA, also reached out to Kenyans, stressing the need for collective support. “Family and friends, we invite you to help us raise funds for our brother Mark Wainaina, who is currently in the ICU battling severe pneumonia that has caused all his vital organs to stop functioning,” she stated.
Since his nomination to represent Wangu Ward, Wainaina has maintained a strong alliance with Governor Kang’ata, who has frequently supported the MCA in public and on social media. Earlier this year, Kang’ata attended Wainaina’s thanksgiving ceremony at ACK St. Peter’s Church, where the governor praised him as an “astute and selfless leader” with a significant impact on young leaders.
The current call for assistance aligns with recent government initiatives urging Kenyans to register for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), designed to cover substantial medical emergencies.
