Footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke depicted the aftermath, with concerned residents surrounding the overturned lorry. The vehicle’s shattered windscreen and severely damaged structure painted a grim picture of the accident’s impact. Emergency responders swiftly arrived, working alongside locals to assist the injured and pull them from the wreckage.

Police officers arrived shortly after, securing the scene and beginning investigations into the cause of the crash. The injured were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary.

This tragic incident in Dundori follows closely on the heels of another fatal accident just a day earlier, where one person was killed in a collision involving a lorry and a trailer along the Garissa-Thika highway. The increasing number of road accidents has raised concerns about road safety in the country.

According to a recent report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 3,369 people have died in road accidents between January 2024 and August 2024. The alarming figures include 1,281 pedestrians, 825 motorcyclists, 654 passengers, and 281 drivers, underscoring the need for immediate action to curb the growing road carnage in Kenya.
