Trump Warned by U.S. Intelligence of Assassination Threats from Iran
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been briefed by U.S. intelligence officials on alleged assassination threats from Iran, according to a statement released by Trump’s campaign. The briefing, conducted by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), revealed real and specific threats that Iran may attempt to carry out to destabilize the United States.
“President Trump was briefed earlier today by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States,” read the statement from Trump’s campaign. It further highlighted that these threats have heightened in recent months and that government officials are working around the clock to protect Trump and ensure the ongoing electoral process remains unaffected.
Trump, taking to his Truth Social platform, acknowledged the threats, stating there were “big threats” on his life from Iran. He reassured his supporters that previous attempts had failed but warned that “they will try again.”
The Iranian government has previously dismissed U.S. allegations of interfering in American affairs, and Iran’s mission to the United Nations did not respond to a request for comment regarding the alleged threats. Meanwhile, an ODNI spokesperson confirmed the briefing but refrained from providing any specifics on the matter.
In related events, a Pakistani man with alleged ties to Iran recently pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a purported plot to assassinate an American politician in retaliation for the U.S. killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020. While Trump’s name surfaced as a possible target, there was no indication that a specific plan to assassinate him had been conceived, according to an individual familiar with the investigation.
Federal authorities are also investigating a separate incident involving an apparent assassination attempt on Trump at his Florida golf course in mid-September, as well as a July 13 shooting at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. However, there has been no clear connection to Iran in either case.
Recent U.S. intelligence reports suggest that Iranian hackers have launched a broader effort to interfere in American politics, allegedly sending emails containing stolen material from Trump’s campaign to individuals associated with Democratic President Joe Biden’s campaign. Tehran has repeatedly denied any involvement in such activities.
This latest development adds to a growing list of allegations against Iran, as the United States continues to accuse Tehran of orchestrating cyber operations against both the Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns. As the November 5 election approaches, tensions remain high, with the nation closely monitoring potential threats.
