In a gracious show of unity, former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama extended their congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump following his remarkable election victory, emphasizing the significance of a peaceful transfer of power in American democracy.
“Over the last few weeks and through Election Day, millions of Americans cast their votes—not just for president, but for leaders at every level. Now, the results are in, and we want to congratulate President Trump and Senator Vance on their victory,” the Obamas announced on Thursday.
In addition to celebrating Trump’s success, Obama praised Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, for their commitment and perseverance throughout the campaign. “Michelle and I could not be prouder of Vice President Harris and Governor Walz—two extraordinary public servants who ran a remarkable campaign. We will always be grateful to the staff and volunteers who poured their heart and soul into electing public servants they truly believed in.”
The Obamas noted that, while the election result was unexpected, it reflects the democratic values that every American must accept, even when their preferred outcome isn’t achieved. They reaffirmed that the challenges America faces are indeed “solvable,” encouraging optimism and unity for the future.
The Obamas had openly endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate, joining her on the campaign trail and energizing her supporters. Despite a formidable campaign, Trump’s victory marks a historic political comeback, as he becomes the 47th President of the United States and the first former president in over 130 years to reclaim office in a nonconsecutive second term.
