Three Arrested Over Theft of Ksh1.7M Maize Truck After Driver Was Drugged
Kajiado Central detectives have arrested three individuals suspected of stealing a lorry loaded with maize worth Ksh1.7 million after allegedly drugging its driver.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on March 24, the theft occurred at Maduka ya Juu in Kajiado, where the driver had stopped with a woman he knew. She had joined him at the Namanga border.
“As detailed in a police report filed on March 19, the theft occurred when the lorry driver parked at Maduka ya Juu in Kajiado. Accompanying him was a woman physically known to him who had joined the journey at the Namanga border,” the detectives stated.
While stepping away to use the restroom, the driver returned to find the woman holding two soft drinks. After consuming one, he began feeling dizzy and eventually lost consciousness inside the truck. Upon waking up the following day, he found himself lying on the ground with both the lorry and the woman missing.
Detectives launched investigations and later recovered the lorry abandoned in Embakasi, Nairobi, with its cargo missing. Their probe led to crucial forensic breakthroughs, leading to the arrest of three suspects—two women and one man.

“The investigation swiftly uncovered key leads, resulting in the recovery of the lorry, which had been stripped of its cargo and left abandoned in Embakasi,” the DCI added.
The stolen maize was reportedly offloaded in Kiandutu, Thika, before being sold to a miller in Makongeni. Detectives have since summoned the miller to Kajiado to assist in unraveling the full extent of the crime.
Meanwhile, the lorry driver remains in custody to aid in investigations, while the arrested suspects are being processed for arraignment.
Separate Fuel Theft Attempt Foiled in Kajiado
In an unrelated case, two suspects were arrested in Kajiado County for attempting to steal 6,000 litres of diesel worth Ksh1.2 million.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 23, at around 4 p.m., when the suspects arrived at a fuel station with an NPR tanker, a vehicle commonly used for diesel transportation. Posing as legitimate customers, they claimed to have deposited Ksh1.2 million with the station owner and instructed the pump attendant to fill their tanker.
However, the attendant, sensing something was amiss, contacted his employer, who confirmed that no such payment had been received. Acting swiftly, the attendant alerted his colleagues, who helped detain the suspects before police arrived to arrest them.
Authorities have since launched investigations into both incidents as the suspects await prosecution.
