Six Reasons Why Your Nipples Hurt

Nipples are extremely sensitive to stimulation as well as irritation.

When they hurt, it may become too uncomfortable to wear a bra.

And, while soreness does not always indicate a serious condition, it can sometimes indicate a medical condition that should not be ignored.

Here are some of the possible causes of nipple pain:

1. Allergic responses

Because they are extremely sensitive, nipples may react to chemicals in soaps, lotions, fabrics, or laundry detergents.

If you notice that your nipples hurt after changing soaps, it could be due to an allergy.

2. Mastitis

This is a serious condition that requires medical attention. It occurs frequently during breastfeeding and causes painful nipples and breasts.

Fatigue, chills, and fever are also possible. An infection occurs when milk remains in the breast for an extended period of time.

3. Menstruation

During menstruation, your hormones can go haywire, resulting in tender and sore nipples.

The good news is that this type of pain is temporary and does not require medication.

4. Infection with yeast

Have I caught you off guard? The same yeast infections that affect your private parts can also cause pain in your nipples.

This is most common in women who wear non-breathable bras.

Breastfeeding mothers are also at risk of contracting thrush from their infants. Fortunately, the infections are easily treated with antibiotics.

5. Pregnancy

Congratulations on your achievement! You might be a mother soon. Your nipples may be the first sign that you are pregnant before you even experience morning sickness or a missed period.

So, if you aren’t using birth control or haven’t been exercising recently, you should start with a pregnancy test.

6. Exercising vigorously

Exercise is beneficial to your overall health.

However, if you require a well-fitting bra for the same, you should do so. The wrong fabric or an ill-fitting bra will almost certainly cause nipple pain.
