Siku hizi mimi siongei jameni, but I just want to wish peace and unity on all Kenyans; Uhuru Calls
On his 63rd birthday, former President Uhuru Kenyatta sent out a heartfelt appeal for peace and unity among Kenyans, urging citizens to avoid divisive politics and to love one another. Speaking in a phone interview with a local radio station, Kenyatta emphasized the importance of harmony as essential to achieving both individual and national success.
“I’m grateful to God for the many years He has given me and for everything He has done,” Kenyatta shared. “We continue to pray for peace so that we may remain united as a nation.”
In a lighter tone, Kenyatta, who recently reappeared in the public eye after months of absence, added, “Siku hizi mimi siongei jameni, but I just want to wish peace and unity on all Kenyans. Tujue sisi wote ni binadamu, tuna mahitaji, tuwache mambo ya kuzozana… tushikane na tupendane kama Wakenya ndipo tuweze kusonga mbele kwa pamoja.”
Currently in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for a peace and stability retreat, Kenyatta plans to spend the day with friends after his engagements. Traditionally, the former president marks his birthday with close family and friends, although this year he is unable to celebrate with them in person. Reflecting on the occasion, he sent a musical dedication to his wife, Margaret, choosing the classic “I Got You Baby” by UB40.
Kenyatta’s lighter side shone through as he mentioned his favorite meal, Nyama Choma, although he admitted it’s now “a bit unhealthy” given his age.
