Shocking Plot: Murungi Confesses to Orchestrating Kawira’s Ouster
Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has admitted to playing a key role in the removal of Kawira Mwangaza from office. He clarified that the move stemmed from her leadership style, not her gender.
Mwangaza had alleged that male leaders conspired against her due to male chauvinism and resistance to her female leadership.
However, Murungi, speaking to NTV, countered this, stating that Mwangaza’s confrontational approach alienated all local leaders, including MCAs, Senators, and MPs.
“She consistently clashed with all leaders, including MCAs, MPs, and even us, the former leadership. She often mishandled and embarrassed us,” Murungi explained.
Murungi, who had sought a second term, said he initially supported Mwangaza’s leadership. However, her perceived arrogance compelled them to take action.
He further claimed that during her two years in office, Mwangaza failed to drive development or address the needs of Meru residents.
“We realized that even with more time, she couldn’t steer Meru County forward. The county was stagnating. As responsible leaders, we united to support the people of Meru, and took decisive action, which led to her removal,” Murungi stated.
Addressing Mwangaza’s gender bias claims, Murungi emphasized his long-standing support for women. He expressed initial optimism about Mwangaza’s governorship but said she ultimately fell short.
Mwangaza was officially impeached on March 14, following a High Court ruling that upheld the Senate’s decision, which she had challenged.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye dismissed Mwangaza’s petition, stating that the impeachment process adhered to legal procedures.
“The amended petition dated December 23, 2024, did not meet the legal threshold for this court to overturn the Senate’s decision,” the judge ruled.
Isaac Mutuma has since been sworn in as her replacement. Murungi expressed confidence in Mutuma’s ability to bring positive change, unity, and development to Meru.
