Shocking Allegations: Gachagua’s Office Linked to Controversial Term Limit Extension Bill
In a surprising turn of events, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has alleged that the controversial bill proposing an extension of the presidential term limit was orchestrated by the office of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The bill, tabled by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei in the Senate, seeks to extend the presidential term from the current five years to seven—a move that has faced widespread criticism from the public.
Wamumbi claims that the bill, unpopular among Kenyans, was drafted under Gachagua’s direct instructions, aiming to destabilize President William Ruto’s administration by shifting public perception against the government.
According to the MP, Cherargei was handpicked to sponsor the bill, in a bid to deflect suspicion away from Gachagua’s office and instead link the proposed legislation to the Rift Valley political wing.
“The truth is that the bill by Senator Kiprotich Cherargei was created by officials in the Deputy President’s office, with a Kalenjin Senator chosen to sponsor it for strategic reasons,” Wamumbi stated. “This was just one of many schemes aimed at tarnishing the government’s image. Let them carry their own cross.”
This claim adds a new layer of complexity to the ongoing political tensions in Kenya, with many now questioning the motivations behind the proposed term extension and how it might impact the nation’s democratic structure.
