Shock As; County Secretary Passes Away Suddenly After Evening Meal

A wave of grief and shock has swept through Vihiga County following the sudden death of County Secretary Ezekiel Maleya Ayiego, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening. Sources say Ayiego collapsed at his home shortly after having his evening meal, leaving family, friends, and colleagues reeling from the tragic news.

Governor Wilber Ottichilo confirmed the incident, expressing sorrow over the abrupt loss of Ayiego, whom he described as a dedicated leader and a valuable member of Vihiga County’s public service. “It is with deep sadness that I have learned of the passing of Ezekiel Marley Ayiego, who was serving as the County Secretary and Head of County Public Service in the Vihiga County Government at the time of his death,” the governor remarked.

Governor Ottichilo praised Ayiego’s significant contributions, hailing him as a committed administrator and a passionate advocate for positive change. “Ayiego, who unexpectedly passed away last night at his residence, was a committed administrator, educator, change advocate, and a dear friend to me and many others,” he shared.

Born on October 20, 1967, in Ingidi village, Lugaga Wamuluma Ward, Ayiego’s career spanned decades in education and public service. Prior to joining the county government, he was the principal of Chesamisi High School from 2018 to 2021 and had also led Vihiga Boys High School, Ingotse High School, Friends High School Kigama, and Lwanda Secondary School. Additionally, he taught at Sunshine High School, Musingu High School, and Namirama Girls High School, serving as a pillar of the academic community in Vihiga.

In his role as County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Ayiego was instrumental in advancing reforms in the county’s public service sector. “He served as a highly efficient County Secretary in my administration, where we diligently collaborated to reform the Vihiga County Public Service,” Governor Ottichilo said.

Expressing heartfelt condolences, Ottichilo added, “On behalf of my family, the County Government Staff, and the people of Vihiga County, I wish to send my deep condolences to the family and friends of Ezekiel Marley Ayiego.”
