Rwandan Man Arrested Over Stolen Phone Scandal
A Rwandan man suspected of operating as a key receiver of stolen mobile phones across Kisauni, Mombasa, was apprehended on Wednesday in a targeted operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The suspect, identified as Ndaziziye Augustin Umurundi, was arrested at his residence following actionable intelligence reports pointing to his involvement in an organized phone theft network.
During the raid, authorities conducted an extensive search of the premises, uncovering a stash of ten mobile phones alongside a power bank, all of which are believed to have been stolen.
“A thorough search of the premises uncovered a trove of ten mobile phones and a power bank, all believed to be pilfered,” police said.
According to detectives, three of the recovered phones were swiftly identified and linked back to their rightful owners.
Efforts are ongoing to trace the ownership of the remaining devices, while Ndaziziye remains in custody as he awaits formal charges in court.
