Ruto, Raila, and Kenyatta Lead Nation in Grief Following School Fire Disaster
In the wake of the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County, President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and opposition leader Raila Odinga have united in grief to mourn the 17 victims, mostly children, who lost their lives. Their heartfelt messages were accompanied by promises of action and a call for increased safety measures in schools.
President Ruto expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending his condolences to the bereaved families while calling for a swift investigation to determine the cause of the tragedy. “Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives. This is devastating news, and we pray for the survivors’ speedy recovery,” said the president.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urged schools to enhance security and safety measures to prevent future tragedies, while Former President Uhuru Kenyatta conveyed his sorrow for the unimaginable loss, noting the pain of losing young lives full of potential. “May God give the families the strength to cope with this unbearable tragedy,” Kenyatta said.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga echoed similar sentiments, calling for solidarity in these tough times and wishing the injured a swift recovery. The fire left 14 students severely injured and currently receiving treatment.
Other leaders, including Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen, also shared their grief, emphasizing the magnitude of the tragedy and the need for community support. Pastor Dorcas highlighted the immense pain felt across the nation, while Murkomen extended his prayers to the affected families and called for unity in this difficult moment.
As investigations continue, National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed that rescue teams were promptly dispatched to aid in managing the aftermath of the disaster.
