Ruto: “No Apologies” for Giving Generously to Churches
President William Ruto has boldly declared his unwavering dedication to supporting churches through donations, brushing off criticism and recent controversies surrounding his giving. Speaking at an interdenominational service at Kapsitet Primary School in Kericho County on Sunday, Ruto emphasized his resolve to give generously, aligning it with his faith and service to God.
“We are going to serve God through our giving. We have absolutely no apologies to make as we give to God,” he stated firmly, dismissing detractors who have questioned his donations. Ruto highlighted the spiritual importance of giving, describing it as a divine act that mirrors God’s example. “Our salvation is a product of giving. It is God who gave first. That is why we have the privilege to know Christ,” he explained.
The president underlined that his contributions are aimed at advancing the Church’s mission, including constructing buildings and spreading the word of God. “Because God gave first as an example, we are going to give, so that the word of God can reach others who have not known Him,” he affirmed.
Ruto’s remarks came shortly after a notable incident where his Ksh5.8 million donation was declined by the Catholic Church. While he avoided direct reference to the rejection, he made it clear that the episode had not deterred him. “We understand the word of God enough to know it is more blessed to give than to receive, and that is what we are going to do,” he asserted.
Recounting his long-standing practice of giving, Ruto revealed he has been supporting churches for over three decades. “Personally, I have built churches for thirty years and I have never lacked because I know the secret of giving and what it does,” he stated with conviction.
In a bid to inspire others, he vowed to champion the act of giving as a cornerstone of faith. “As William Ruto, I am a product of giving, and I will teach others to give,” he pledged.
Last Sunday, November 17, during a church service, Ruto donated Ksh600,000 to the Soweto Catholic Church choir and Ksh2 million meant for constructing a priest’s house. However, the Catholic bishops turned down the funds, citing unspecified reasons. Despite the setback, the President has reiterated his commitment to philanthropy as an expression of his faith.
