Real Reason Behind ;Gachagua vs. Ichung’wah Dispute
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has opened up about his ongoing friction with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during an interview with Spice FM, Ichung’wah pinpointed Gachagua’s push for the “One Man, One Shilling, One Vote” campaign as the core reason for their disagreement.
Ichung’wah criticized Gachagua’s choice to address these issues in public, arguing that, given his position, the Deputy President could have easily championed these concerns through government channels.
“With the influence he holds, the Deputy President could have pushed for the revenue-sharing formula within the system—cabinet committees, legislative bodies—not on public platforms,” Ichung’wah remarked.
He further drew attention to Gachagua’s inconsistent support for government policies, noting that President William Ruto, during his time as Deputy President, always stood firmly behind the government’s stance, even when it wasn’t politically convenient. “It’s the same government he should be supporting, but instead, his statements have caused unnecessary friction,” Ichung’wah added.
Ichung’wah also revealed that when Gachagua was named UDA’s running mate, regional leaders had advised him to tone down his abrasive approach. “Many leaders told him to ease off the confrontational style, but it seems it’s only isolated him,” Ichung’wah noted.
