Raila Odinga Courts African Leaders in Race for AUC Chairmanship
Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has stepped up his efforts to clinch the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position as the February 2025 elections draw closer.
Continuing his strategic outreach, Raila has toured multiple countries across North and West Africa to drum up support for his bid. On Tuesday, he visited Chad, where he engaged in talks with President Mahamat Idriss Déby. Following their meeting, Raila revealed that his campaign for the AUC chairmanship dominated their discussions.
“I emphasized the need to unite Africa using infrastructure, intra-African trade, and addressing visa policies to ease the movement of people and goods,” Raila shared in a post on X. He highlighted the importance of collective action to dismantle barriers, foster unity, and strengthen Africa’s global standing.
If elected, Raila aims to prioritize youth empowerment, placing them at the forefront of innovation and driving the continent’s transformation. “I envision vibrant cities buzzing with energy, where young entrepreneurs leverage technology and creativity to build dynamic businesses,” he stated.
Raila also commended President Déby for his warm reception and lauded their shared commitment to pursuing African solutions for the continent’s challenges.
