Radio Presenter Found Dead in Boyfriend’s Home as Police Launch Manhunt
Police in Kahawa West, Kiambu County, have begun investigating a suspected femicide case following the tragic discovery of Nairobi-based radio presenter Lilian Achieng’ Aluko’s body inside her boyfriend’s house on Friday, November 1. This harrowing incident adds to an alarming rise in femicide cases across the country.
The 33-year-old Radio 44 presenter was found with visible injuries, including a stab wound behind her right ear, which authorities believe was inflicted by her boyfriend, who is now on the run. Lilian’s family had last seen her on Thursday, when she informed them that she would be staying at her boyfriend’s residence. Her mother recounted, “She left at around 11 am and told me she went to her friend. She did not return. On Friday, minutes to 9, I received a call from an unknown number (informing me of her demise).”
Police reports reveal that the couple returned home after visiting a nearby entertainment venue, and neighbors soon heard loud sounds of a struggle. However, their attempts to intervene were thwarted as the house was locked, and music played loudly from inside. Investigators discovered a knife at the scene, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
Lilian’s family and friends are heartbroken and are now urging authorities to take swift action. Her sister shared her grief, saying, “I am heartbroken and devastated because her light has been taken too soon. What we just wish is justice for her.” A close friend added, “We have lost a very good girl in the hands of a person she probably really loved.”
The tragic death of Lilian Achieng’ adds to the troubling statistics; recent data from the National Police Service shows that 97 women have lost their lives in the past three months alone. The shocking trend has spurred calls from women’s groups for the government to take decisive steps against femicide.
President William Ruto, speaking at Divine Africa Church on Sunday, addressed the surge in violence against women, promising firm government intervention. “How can it be our girls, the women of Kenya that expect us to love them, that now are dying in the hands of men? We have a criminal problem and a moral problem; we need to address both of them,” he stated, signaling a commitment to justice for victims.
As the search for Lilian’s boyfriend continues, her family, friends, and the community wait with hope for justice to be served and for an end to the escalating cases of violence against women in Kenya.
