Pretenders !! Sudi Slams Churches for Turning Away Ruto’s Church Donations
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has lashed out at church leaders who reject donations from politicians, branding them as hypocrites. His remarks come after the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi publicly declined a KSh2.6 million donation from President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja during a service at Soweto Catholic Church in November 2024. The church maintained that political contributions conflicted with their ethical principles, although State House clarified that the funds had not been refunded.
Speaking during a service at AIC Pioneer Church in Eldoret, Sudi criticized the move, emphasizing that churches neither contest elections nor receive government funding, making such refusals unjustifiable. “Sometimes, when development projects arise in churches, some believers avoid fundraisers due to financial challenges. Yet, others object to donations meant to help,” he stated.
Sudi, a long-time advocate of supporting religious institutions, argued that political donations are acts of thanksgiving, reflecting personal devotion to God. “Sometimes, we pledge what we don’t have, but through God’s grace, we manage,” he added. He shared his personal history of contributing to church projects, saying this habit predates his political career.
The outspoken MP also defended President Ruto’s generous contributions to religious causes, highlighting his unwavering commitment to serving God. Sudi accused churches rejecting the President’s donations of insincerity, arguing that these institutions had previously accepted similar offerings without issue.
During the service, Sudi pledged to support a KSh27 million Sunday school project in Eldoret, further cementing his dedication to church development. The event saw notable attendees, including First Lady Rachel Ruto, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina, and Health PS Mary Muthoni.
