Pressure Mounts as Nakuru Residents Demand Governor Susan Kihika’s Whereabouts
Nakuru County residents have escalated their concerns, lodging a formal petition with the county assembly. They are demanding a swift investigation into Governor Susan Kihika’s extended absence.
The residents, represented by over 2,000 signatures, have given the assembly a two-week ultimatum to clarify the governor’s whereabouts. They also seek a detailed audit of all foreign travel undertaken by county officials.
In addition, the petitioners are pressing for an update on the investigation into the disappearance of fisherman Brian Odhiambo, who vanished on January 18th.
Speaking to the press after submitting their petition, the residents voiced serious concerns about the county’s leadership. They highlighted internal conflicts between the County Secretary and the Deputy Governor, which they believe are hindering development.
“The governor must decide between her law practice in Texas and her duties here,” one resident stated. “We need accountability, not political games.”
Another resident pointed out, “The recent public disagreements between the County Secretary and the Deputy Governor reveal a clear lack of effective leadership.”
This demand for answers follows Governor Kihika’s earlier statement, issued in January, where she explained her absence as maternity leave.
In a letter signed by Chief of Staff Peter Ketyenya, she addressed public inquiries, assuring residents of her well-being.
To ensure continuity, Governor Kihika designated Deputy Governor David Kones to oversee county operations during her leave.
“I have full confidence in Deputy Governor Kones’s ability to lead in my absence,” she stated. “I will return to my duties in a few weeks.”
Despite these assurances, the residents remain concerned, demanding greater transparency and accountability.
