President Ruto’s Cabinet Nominee for Tourism Rejected in Parliament
In a surprising turn of events, President William Ruto’s nominee for the Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary position, Peninah Malonza, has been rejected by the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments. The decision was made public after the committee’s report was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, October 25.
The report, presented by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, revealed that the committee found Malonza unfit for the role due to her lack of the necessary experience and capabilities required to manage the critical Tourism docket.
This marks the only rejection in President Ruto’s lineup, as all other Cabinet Secretary nominees, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Attorney General Justin Muturi, were approved by the committee and are set to be sworn in.
Despite Malonza’s rejection, the remaining Cabinet Secretaries, such as Prof. Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u (National Treasury), and Aisha Jumwa (Public Service and Gender), have been given the green light, signaling the new administration’s readiness to embark on its governance agenda.
This development underscores the rigorous scrutiny Parliament is applying to ensure that only the most qualified candidates serve in Ruto’s government.
