President Ruto Visits Uhuru Kenyatta in Gatundu for Key Political Discussions
President William Ruto on Monday, December 9, visited his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, at his home in Gatundu, marking their second meeting in less than a month. The two leaders last met during the consecration of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu.
According to a State House statement, President Ruto used the meeting to appreciate Uhuru for a peaceful power transition following the 2022 elections.

“President Ruto thanked Uhuru Kenyatta for laying a strong foundation that enabled the government to implement key programs under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” the statement read.
The leaders also discussed resolving court matters that have delayed the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In an interesting twist, the two called on Kenyans to support Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairmanship, reflecting a rare moment of unity.
Uhuru’s Recent Activities
Uhuru Kenyatta has stepped back into the public eye after months of silence. On Saturday, December 7, he attended the wedding of Damarie Saada Kalonzo, daughter of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo, a vocal critic of Ruto’s government, publicly thanked Uhuru for his presence, further highlighting the former president’s growing influence.
Political Undertones
The timing of Ruto and Uhuru’s meeting has raised eyebrows, given the intensifying power struggle in the Mount Kenya region. Uhuru’s re-emergence on the political stage coincides with Kalonzo Musyoka positioning himself for a 2027 presidential run.
Mount Kenya is shaping up to be the key battleground, with Kalonzo openly supporting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached earlier this year. Both have been vocal about delays in reconstituting the IEBC, adding pressure on Ruto’s administration.
This meeting underscores the strategic importance of aligning with influential leaders like Uhuru as political players gear up for the next election.
