President Ruto Returns to New York for UNGA Session
President William Ruto has made his return to New York, USA, where he is set to actively participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This follows his recent impromptu visit to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on Saturday evening, where he engaged with local leaders on bilateral matters.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed announced that President Ruto is scheduled to kick off his participation at UNGA 79 by delivering key remarks at the Summit of the Future’s interactive dialogue, which will be followed by his contribution to the plenary session later this afternoon.
“This morning, the President will advocate for urgent reforms in global financial systems that currently hinder progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contribute to worsening inequalities, especially in developing nations,” said Hussein Mohammed.
As part of his agenda, President Ruto aims to push for comprehensive reforms of multilateral institutions, including the United Nations, to ensure they are equipped to tackle today’s pressing challenges. His advocacy will focus on making the proposed ‘Pact for the Future’ a reality—one that fosters a democratic, transparent, and inclusive global order tailored to address the unique needs of Kenya, Africa, and other developing countries.
Additionally, the President will engage in high-level discussions to address the digital divide and advocate for inclusive participation in the digital economy. This will include discussions on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data governance, with an emphasis on ensuring equitable management and access for all nations.
President Ruto’s agenda also includes a series of meetings with world leaders and representatives from international organizations, aimed at strengthening Kenya’s partnerships and identifying opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, and diplomacy.
