Cabinet Revamp: President Ruto Nominates Duale, Wahome and 9 Others as New CSs

In a decisive move to reshape his administration, President William Ruto has nominated 11 new cabinet secretaries, marking a significant shift in the government’s leadership. Among the key nominees is Aden Duale, who has been tapped for the Defence department.

This sweeping change follows the President’s recent dismissal of his entire cabinet, with the exception of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The nominations were officially announced in a gazette notice on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

The newly nominated cabinet secretaries include:

  • Kithure Kindiki – Interior and National Administration
  • Debra Mulongo Barasa – Ministry of Health
  • Aden Duale – Defence
  • Davis Chirchir – Roads and Transport
  • Soipan Tuya – Environment and Forestry
  • Eric Muga – Water, Sanitation & Irrigation
  • Julius Migosi – Education

In the gazette notice dated July 12, President Ruto elaborated on the motivations behind his drastic decision, citing the need for continuous evaluation of his cabinet’s capacity to meet national goals.

He emphasized his commitment to good governance as mandated by Articles 131 and 132 of the Constitution, stressing the necessity to realign his administration for the effective implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

President Ruto highlighted the importance of responding to the people’s voices, acknowledging the significant feedback from Kenyans during recent mass protests. This overhaul aims to enhance the government’s responsiveness and efficiency in addressing public needs and aspirations.
