President Ruto Condemns Tribal Politics, Promotes National Unity”
In a powerful address during the Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival in Lodwar, President William Ruto emphasized his commitment to eradicating divisive, ethnic politics in Kenya. Asserting his vision of a unified, peaceful nation, he stated, “We don’t want tribal or discriminative politics. We will work hard to unite all Kenyans and aspire to create a prosperous Kenya for all.
” The President highlighted his efforts to bring Kenyans together, pointing to his formation of an inclusive Cabinet designed to represent the nation’s diverse communities and political backgrounds.
The Tobong’u Lore festival, celebrating its eighth year, has grown into a vibrant event, spotlighting Turkana’s cultural wealth with traditional dances, music, food, and crafts from across Kenya and neighboring countries, including Uganda, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
During his speech, President Ruto praised collaborative efforts by local leaders in West Pokot and Turkana to address long-standing issues of banditry and cattle rustling. He urged Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul to develop 50,000 acres of land along the Turkana-West Pokot border under irrigation to foster food security and reduce conflicts.
The President also addressed local concerns in Lake Turkana, instructing Wildlife officials to support, rather than restrict, local fishermen. “Let’s resolve the issues amicably so we can maintain harmonious relations,” he urged.
President Ruto further announced a transformative project—the Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in Namortunga Kalokol. This museum will highlight Kenya’s role in early human history, housing discoveries like the famous Turkana Boy and ancient stone tools, and is set to boost scientific research, eco-tourism, and cultural tourism in the region.
Reiterating his commitment to empowering local communities, President Ruto said, “The people are the primary stakeholders of our development agenda, especially in cultural and tourism sectors.” This approach, he added, will provide direct benefits to residents, creating jobs and improving livelihoods in Turkana County.
Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai expressed support for the government’s efforts in tackling regional security challenges and enhancing food security. Leaders from neighboring countries were also in attendance, highlighting the broader regional significance of Turkana’s cultural and economic development.
