Police Officer’s Firearm Stolen by Boda Boda Riders After Late-Night Drinking Binge
In a bizarre turn of events, a police officer was arrested after losing his service firearm, wallet, and mobile phone to boda boda riders during a night out along the Eastern Bypass.
Police Constable Peter Mburu, along with friends, visited a local drinking joint near Mihango, close to the National Police College Campus, around 9:30 PM. The evening of revelry extended until 2:00 AM, after which the officer headed to his parents’ home in Green Court, Mihang’o.
On his way, Mburu was accosted by two individuals on a boda boda who managed to steal his loaded Ceska pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition, a wallet containing his police appointment certificate, bank cards, and his phone. After reporting the incident to a nearby station, officers from Mihang’o and the DCI Kayole unit visited the scene, the drinking joints, and Mburu’s parents’ residence.
The officer’s wife confirmed that he left home armed earlier that day. However, when questioned, Mburu, who was visibly intoxicated, could not accurately describe where the incident took place. The officer, who had noticeable bruises and torn clothing, was placed in custody to assist with the investigation as authorities continue their efforts to retrieve the stolen firearm.
