Police Officer Cheats Death After Fellow Cop Opens Fire in Alleged Love Triangle
In a shocking early morning incident in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area, a police officer became the target of a near-fatal attack by a fellow officer.
The violent confrontation, stemming from a suspected love triangle, unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday.
The incident, recorded at Kamukunji Police Station under OB No. 02/26/03/2025 around 4:30 am, involved two officers from the Muthurwa Police Post. Constable Piro had briefly left his colleagues to retrieve his charging phone from a nearby bar and lodge.
Upon his return, he was confronted by Constable Juma, who accused him of having an affair with his girlfriend. The confrontation quickly escalated. Juma reportedly slapped Piro multiple times before drawing his AK-47 rifle. A shot was fired.
The bullet, fortunately, missed Piro, but it penetrated a metal wall and grill. Piro escaped unharmed and promptly reported the attempted shooting at the Kamukunji Police Station.
Crime scene investigators processed the scene. However, they were unable to recover the spent cartridge. Juma initially fled, but he later surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody. His firearm has been seized as evidence while investigations continue.
This incident has amplified growing concerns about police-involved shootings in Kenya. Since January, at least five separate cases have emerged, where officers discharged their firearms in personal disputes or under unclear circumstances.
February saw an officer in Nakuru shoot and injure a fellow officer during a drunken altercation. Similarly, in Mombasa, a traffic officer opened fire during an argument with a motorcycle rider, resulting in injuries to a bystander. These events underscore a troubling trend.
