Police Constable Sentenced to 35 Years for Brutally Shooting Husband 12 Times
Police Constable Lilian Biwott has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of her husband, Victor Kipchumba, in Eldoret.
In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Eldoret High Court Judge Justice Reuben Nyakundi condemned Biwott’s actions, describing them as cruel and unjustifiable. He stated that the accused shot her spouse 12 times, with no evidence of provocation or self-defense.
“The accused abused her firearm, fully aware that it was against the law. This act has caused untold suffering to the deceased’s family, especially his elderly mother, who is now depressed and psychologically tormented,” said Justice Nyakundi.
He further reprimanded Biwott, saying, “You had every opportunity to prevent this tragedy. Instead, you chose a path that has left your children orphaned and a family shattered.”
Justice Nyakundi highlighted the rising cases of gender-based violence and femicide in the country, emphasizing the need for harsher penalties to deter such crimes.
“The premeditated nature of this gruesome act warrants the severe punishment handed down,” he added.
The judgment brings to a close a case that has drawn public attention and sparked conversations on firearm misuse and domestic violence in Kenya.
