NTSA Sets New Rules for Number Plate, Logbook, and Licence Collection
Since 2012, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has handled the creation and distribution of driving permits, vehicle ownership documents (logbooks), and vehicle registration plates.
With the arrival of updated driving permits and electronic number plates, Kenyans, especially car owners, have frequently asked questions about these important papers.
Many of these inquiries have focused on how to apply for and gather driving permits, logbooks, and electronic number plates.
On Tuesday, March 18, Kenyans.co.ke spoke with an NTSA representative to answer some of the common questions from drivers.
The NTSA stated that while applications are submitted online through the eCitizen website, individuals picking up their logbooks must show their original national identification card and the previous logbook at the closest NTSA location.
In the same way, the NTSA explained that people retrieving their completed digital number plates need to provide their original ID card and give up their old number plates.
However, those picking up their driving permits only need to present their original ID card at the NTSA offices.
The NTSA also clarified what happens to the old plates when they are replaced with digital ones.
They confirmed that once the new digital plate is ready, the vehicle owner has to hand over the old plates before getting the new ones.
Regarding the question of applying for number plates without owning a vehicle, the NTSA confirmed that only car owners can get them.
According to the NTSA, to request a digital number plate, the vehicle must be registered in the applicant’s NTSA account or name.
The Authority also discussed issues related to suspended driving permits. The NTSA said that how these issues are resolved depends on why the permit was suspended.
