Nominated MCA Ezra Kihara Dies in Fiery Thika Road Accident
Kiambu County is in mourning following the tragic death of Nominated Ward Representative Ezra Kabugi Kihara, who perished in a fatal car accident on Thika Road. The accident, which occurred on the morning of Sunday, September 22, involved Kihara’s Subaru Forester colliding with a lorry from behind, sparking a fire that engulfed the vehicle. The lawmaker was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police reports, the accident took place as Kihara was traveling from Nairobi to Thika Town. The incident happened near the Mang’u High School area, where Kihara’s car rammed into the rear of an Isuzu FRR lorry, leading to the devastating fire. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear as investigations are ongoing.
The tragic news quickly spread, and leaders across Kiambu County shared heartfelt tributes. Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi confirmed the incident, expressing his sorrow and describing Kihara as a vibrant and promising young leader with a deep passion for serving the people of Kiambu.
“It is heartbreaking to lose such a young, dedicated legislator with so much promise for the future. During this difficult time, I stand with the family in grief and prayer,” said Governor Wamatangi.
Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha also mourned the loss, expressing her deep condolences to Kihara’s family, friends, and colleagues. “Hon. Ezra was a promising young leader, and his sudden departure is a tremendous loss for all who knew and worked with him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may those grieving find strength and comfort in the memories they shared with him. Rest in peace. It hurts,” Wamuratha wrote on Facebook.
President William Ruto also issued a statement on Sunday afternoon, acknowledging Kihara’s significant contributions to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. “He (Kihara) was a dedicated and loyal member of UDA. His skills in party politics were exemplary, and he played a crucial role as the Kiambu County returning officer during the party primaries in 2022.”
Kihara’s body has been transferred to Montezuma Funeral Home, where preparations for his final send-off will commence. His untimely death has left a void in Kiambu’s political landscape, and his contributions as a young leader will be remembered for years to come.
