No Retreat After Israel Targets Hezbollah Figures
Israel confirmed on Friday that it launched a precision airstrike on Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon. The overnight operation, which is part of Israel’s broader military campaign against the group, follows a series of high-profile strikes targeting senior Hezbollah figures. This marks a significant escalation as the conflict in the region continues to intensify.
Among those reportedly targeted is Hashem Safieddine, a senior Hezbollah official rumored to be a potential successor to the group’s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated by Israel last week. While Safieddine’s fate remains unclear, Israel and Hezbollah have yet to provide any official comment on his status
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a fiery Friday prayer sermon in Tehran, declared that Iran and its regional allies would not back down, reiterating Tehran’s support for Hezbollah. This comes just days after Iran fired missiles at Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Nasrallah, further fueling tensions in the volatile region.
Israel’s military has launched localized ground operations near the border, aiming to push back Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon. The Israeli government has not disclosed how far its forces will advance or how long the operations are expected to last. Amid growing fears of a broader conflict, oil prices have surged over concerns that Israeli strikes could target Iran’s vital oil infrastructure.
Khamenei emphasized that despite the loss of key figures like Nasrallah, the resistance would continue its fight, with each strike against Israel strengthening their resolve. He also refrained from issuing a direct new threat to Israel or the U.S., though he ominously grasped a rifle during his speech, signaling the growing risks of escalation.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes have caused significant damage in Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut, with entire streets reduced to rubble and civilians displaced. Aid facilities, including rescue units and hospitals, have been struck in recent attacks, drawing international concern over the humanitarian toll.
With over 1.2 million Lebanese displaced, and hundreds of civilian casualties reported, the conflict’s devastating impact is becoming increasingly evident. Iranian officials reaffirmed their support for Hezbollah and hinted at broader regional retaliation if the situation continues to escalate.
