“Nilikua Navumilia” Painful Confession Of A Woman Who Ignored Red Flags in Her Abusive Marriage
Many individuals remain in abusive relationships for various reasons, including fear, financial dependence, and societal expectations. For Mary (not her real name), a mother of three from Mombasa, the hope that things would improve and her sense of duty kept her trapped in a toxic marriage for over a decade.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, she revealed the four major red flags she ignored before finally escaping the abusive relationship.
Enduring Years of Abuse
Mary was married to Mark (not his real name), an officer in the Kenya Defence Forces, for more than 10 years. Throughout their marriage, he was physically and emotionally abusive, often blaming her for minor household issues.
“I always tried to be the bigger person, fixing all the mistakes he pointed out, hoping he would change,” she said.
Despite enduring years of assault, infidelity, and a near-death experience, Mary eventually found the courage to leave with her children and never looked back.
Red Flags She Ignored
1. Constant Threats
Mary recalled that her husband frequently threatened to harm or kill her, regardless of the mood of their conversation. He was paranoid that she might leave him or move on with another man.
