Mystery Deepens Over Missing Nakuru Fisherman: 6 KWS Officers Questioned as Search for Brian Odhiambo Intensifies
The disappearance of Brian Odhiambo, a Nakuru fisherman, has sparked intense scrutiny, with six Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers being questioned over his whereabouts.
Odhiambo, a 31-year-old father of two, was reportedly arrested at his Manyani home in Nakuru East on January 18 before being taken to Nakuru National Park. His sudden disappearance has since raised serious concerns.
Investigations revealed that officers Francis Wachira, Abdulrahman Sudi, Isaac Ochieng, Evance Kimaiyo, Michael Wabukhala, and Alexander Lorogoi confirmed apprehending a suspect for illegal fishing in a sewage area. However, they alleged that Odhiambo fled custody while under Sudi’s watch. According to Sudi, the fisherman had requested a restroom break but took the chance to escape. The ranger driver also denied any accusations of mistreatment while Odhiambo was in their custody.
Detectives probing the case discovered that Odhiambo’s two mobile phones were switched off hours after his arrest—one last active near Nakuru State House at 1:51 p.m. and the other deactivated in Karunga at 4:07 p.m. Authorities are now analyzing the call data of the six officers to determine their locations during these times.
Meanwhile, human rights activists have vowed to keep pressing for Odhiambo’s whereabouts. Hussein Khalid, Executive Director of Vocal Africa, declared their unwavering commitment to finding him. “We will not stop until we see Brian, whether dead or alive. The government must understand that Kenyans are watching,” he asserted.
As tensions rise, Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has urged the public to remain patient and avoid demonstrations ahead of a court hearing scheduled for Thursday, January 30, where Odhiambo is expected to be produced. His appeal comes amid ongoing protests by local fishermen condemning what they describe as KWS’s heavy-handed enforcement of fishing regulations.
Authorities continue their investigations as the search for Odhiambo remains a top priority.
