Murder Mystery Deepens: Suspect’s Escape Leaves Village Paralyzed
Panic has gripped the village of Emurua Dikir in Narok County after a fugitive suspected of previous murders resurfaced, brutally attacked a neighbor, and disappeared once more.
According to witnesses, Meshack Cheruiyot, who had been in hiding for months and was on the police wanted list, reemerged on Saturday and targeted a neighbor with a disability. The 42-year-old victim was stabbed 16 times inside his shop and succumbed to the injuries on the spot.
Eyewitnesses reported that Cheruiyot approached the unsuspecting victim stealthily at his pool table shop and unleashed the brutal attack with a sharp knife. “He didn’t see the attacker coming. He walked in quietly and stabbed him without warning,” a witness narrated. Residents who tried to save the victim were met with a horrifying scene but were unable to stop the suspect, who fled into a nearby thicket.
The attack has left the close-knit community reeling with fear, especially after the assailant allegedly declared intentions to harm others in the village. “We are terrified because he’s still out there, and we’ve heard he has a list of people he plans to attack,” said one local.
For the grieving family, the pain is compounded by frustrations with the ongoing investigation. The victim’s father criticized law enforcement for their sluggish response, saying, “We have gone to the authorities several times, but there is no progress. I appeal to the government to intervene and speed up the investigations.”
The victim’s widow, now left to care for her children alone, echoed the call for justice. “He was our family’s breadwinner. We need answers and for the culprit to be arrested,” she pleaded.
The tragic incident, reported three weeks ago, has highlighted concerns over security in Emurua Dikir, with residents demanding swift action to apprehend the elusive suspect and restore peace in the troubled village.
