Mt Kenya MPs Clash Over Gachagua Impeachment Rumors
A new chapter unfolds in the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged plot to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Mt Kenya MPs are now pointing fingers at Gachagua’s own handlers for stirring the impeachment rumors.
Gatanga MP Edward Muriu dismissed the impeachment talk as baseless, attributing it to Gachagua’s supporters. Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku, rumored to be sponsoring the motion, also denied involvement, calling it pure speculation.
This development adds to the DP’s troubles within the ruling Kenya Kwanza Coalition. Reports of clandestine meetings and schemes to oust Gachagua have been circulating, with accusations against him ranging from insubordination to fueling anti-government protests.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a loyal supporter, warned of severe political repercussions if impeachment proceedings were pursued, labeling it an attack on the Mt Kenya region. Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba criticized the alleged plot, suggesting it was a distraction from corruption and inefficiency within the government.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya accused a Kiambu MP of leading the impeachment efforts, while Nominated MP Sabina Chege urged the President to resolve internal conflicts and focus on governance.
As the political drama intensifies, Gachagua’s allies and critics alike are bracing for what might come next in this high-stakes power struggle
