Bribes and Threats Fuel Plot to Remove Me from Office
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stirred the political landscape in the Kenya Kwanza administration with explosive allegations that Members of Parliament are being bribed and coerced to initiate his impeachment. In a candid interview with Citizen TV, Gachagua revealed that secret meetings have been held in Nyahururu and Kitisuru, allegedly orchestrated by a Cabinet Secretary, to plot his removal from office.
The DP claimed that MPs were not only bribed but also intimidated during these clandestine gatherings. “I am a consumer of information,” he stated, emphasizing his awareness of the covert meetings. “Meetings have been held in Nyahururu, and in Kitisuru at the house of a CS. We know what was being discussed, we know the amount of money that exchanged hands.
The political tension escalated following the ‘Nyahururu Declaration,’ where over 69 MPs reportedly selected Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as their preferred Mt. Kenya political leader, effectively sidelining Gachagua. Further reports indicated that another meeting involving 21 MPs discussed an impeachment motion against the DP, citing constitutional violations and gross misconduct.
Gachagua, however, remains defiant, dismissing the notion of turmoil within the Mt. Kenya political arena. He expressed confidence in his support base, noting that only the public, his ’employers,’ have the right to evaluate his leadership.
The Deputy President also addressed the alleged tension with President William Ruto, stating that although his detractors claim the President authorized the meetings, he cannot accuse Ruto, as the Head of State was not present at those gatherings.
