Mount Kenya MPs Plotting to Jail Gachagua, Says Senator Thang’wa
In a charged statement, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has alleged a conspiracy to sideline Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, suggesting that a group of Mt Kenya MPs has plotted to oust him from the political stage.
Speaking at Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, Thang’wa insinuated that these MPs have rallied around Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as part of a broader plan to weaken Gachagua’s influence.
Thang’wa claimed that this group intends to impeach the DP, bring charges against him, and eventually jail him to redistribute political positions among themselves.
The senator was quick to affirm Gachagua’s continued significance, stating, “We are the ones who voted for Gachagua as the mountain and we will not allow anyone to touch him.”
He also warned Kindiki to be wary of the newfound support, referencing how Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was once praised as a potential regional kingpin, only to be sidelined shortly afterward. “Those backing you now did the same to Ndindi Nyoro.
They raised him up only to abandon him. Now, he is still picking himself up. The same will happen to you,” Thang’wa cautioned.
The senator further criticized the MPs for abdicating their responsibilities by suggesting that the president should only be accessed through a centralized leader like Kindiki, calling it a “vote of no confidence” in their leadership.
This tension emerges amid growing suspicion that Gachagua’s grip on the Mt Kenya region may be weakening, especially after 69 MPs publicly declared their allegiance to Kindiki. The latest endorsements, including the ‘Nyandarua Declaration’ by 48 MPs, seem to position Kindiki as a central figure capable of lobbying for regional resources in light of stalled development projects.
