Moses Kuria Blames Gachagua’s Political Misfortunes on Ignored Advice
The ongoing debate surrounding the alleged impending impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stirred mixed reactions among political circles, with many leaders attributing his political woes to his own actions.
One of the most vocal critics is the Senior Advisor to the Council of Economic Advisors at State House, Moses Kuria. On Wednesday night, Kuria delivered a scathing critique of the Deputy President, suggesting that Gachagua’s current political troubles are a direct result of ignoring crucial advice he offered months ago.
Kuria disclosed that he had urged Gachagua to avoid entering a political pact with President William Ruto without the backing of a political party, warning that this move would significantly diminish his influence within the administration. Despite the counsel, Gachagua chose to proceed without a party, dismissing Kuria’s advice.
In a surprising revelation, Kuria stated that he even extended an offer to Gachagua, inviting him to use his Chama Cha Kazi outfit to join the Kenya Kwanza Coalition. However, Gachagua rejected the opportunity, instead opting to pursue his own political path.
According to Kuria, the Deputy President then chose to wage political contests rather than working collaboratively with him within the government, eventually lobbying to have him removed from the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry and transferred to the Ministry of Public Service.
In a social media post, Kuria reminded the Deputy President of a letter he had written, detailing the advice and issues that Gachagua seemingly ignored. “You pressed President Ruto repeatedly to have me fired. When you failed, you succeeded in having me transferred… because you thought my efforts in poverty reduction, job creation, and wealth creation were too dangerous for your plans,” Kuria shared in his statement.
Kuria further alleged that Gachagua’s current political predicament is largely self-inflicted. He accused the Deputy President of sidelining Mount Kenya leaders in the awarding of senior government jobs, with many learning about these appointments only through gazette notices.
“You have lost the trust and friendship of 90% of elected and appointed leaders in the Mt Kenya region. How can you lead them?” Kuria questioned in his letter.
Gachagua’s political troubles have intensified in recent months, with a section of Mount Kenya leaders accusing him of attempting to undermine President William Ruto in his bid to unify the region. In a recent meeting, 48 Members of Parliament resolved to support Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their direct link to the Executive, effectively bypassing Gachagua.
