Millie Odhiambo Takes Whip Role in ODM Parliamentary Reorganization
In a significant reshuffle, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has revamped its Parliamentary leadership following key nominations of its senior members as Cabinet Secretaries in President William Ruto’s administration.
The overhaul comes after Ugunja MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi was nominated for the Energy ministry, while ODM National Chairman John Mbadi was appointed to the Finance docket.
Additionally, ODM’s deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya were selected for the Mining and Blue Economy ministry and the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development, respectively.
As a result, ODM, led by Raila Odinga, has named new leaders to fill the vacated roles. Suna East MP Junet Mohamed is set to become the new Minority Leader in the National Assembly, with Suba North legislator Millie Odhiambo taking over as the Minority Whip.
The party has also proposed Saboti MP Caleb Amisi for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairperson, and Wilberforce Oundo as the committee’s Vice Chair.
These changes were confirmed by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in a statement after a Central Management Committee meeting chaired by Odinga.
Sifuna addressed concerns about ODM potentially joining Kenya Kwanza, affirming the party’s commitment to remaining in the opposition under the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
He emphasized ODM’s support for issues raised by Kenyan youth during recent anti-government protests, underscoring the party’s dedication to fighting for accountability and transparency in governance.
