MCA Celebrates Scoring D- in KCSE with Lavish Bash
Kipkenyo Ward MCA, David Kimele Leting, on Saturday, January 11, threw a grand party to celebrate his achievement of a D- (Minus) in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). The event, attended by residents of his ward, was a testament to his excitement over completing the exam as a private candidate.
Leting was among the 962,512 candidates who sat for the recently released KCSE results. Speaking to the media during the ceremony, he revealed that he had never attended formal classes, choosing instead to sit for the exam solely to obtain a KCSE certificate.
“I am ahead of over 480 candidates who wasted 15 years in school. I have never gone to any school, not even tuition,” Leting stated, explaining his joy at surpassing his own expectations.
His results revealed scores of E in Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry, and English; D- in Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education; and a surprising C- in Biology, his highest-performing subject.
“In Biology, I scored C-, and I know many here didn’t get that because studies are very tough,” he joked, adding that his Kiswahili grade initially made him hope for an “E+” until he was informed such a grade didn’t exist.

The MCA’s educational journey has been unconventional. After dropping out of nursery school in 1970, he returned to education decades later and sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2020, scoring 150 out of 500 marks. The KCPE results motivated him to continue his studies, culminating in the KCSE.
“There was a time when they said all MCAs needed a KCSE certificate to qualify. Now, no one can challenge me on that,” Leting remarked, emphasizing the job security his certificate offers.
Leting’s achievement has sparked conversations on resilience and the value of education, with his constituents applauding his determination.
