Mary Kilobi Appeals to Youth: ‘Let’s Avoid Anarchy, Seek Peace
Mary Kilobi, the wife of COTU Boss Francis Atwoli, has made a heartfelt appeal to Generation Z, urging them to promote peace and exercise patience amid ongoing protests against the Finance Bill. Acknowledging the tragic loss of lives during the demonstrations, Kilobi shared her condolences with the affected families, emphasizing the need to address core issues without resorting to anarchy.
According to KNCHR data, 39 people have died and 361 have been injured between June 18 and July 1. Kilobi, in her message, expressed her deep sorrow for Kenya and her personal understanding of loss. “My heart is deeply saddened for Kenya. I have experienced the loss of loved ones myself, and I understand the pain those families are going through. It’s truly heartbreaking. My thoughts are with all of you,” she stated.
She acknowledged that the main trigger for the protests has been addressed but cautioned against overlooking the fundamental issues. Kilobi highlighted the struggles of unemployment, sharing her own and her siblings’ experiences in seeking jobs. She called for patience, likening the situation to a concluded football match where continuing to fight would be futile.
“The President has acknowledged our concerns. The Bill has been rejected. Now, let’s give him time. The match is over, you’ve won, so why continue fighting with an opponent who has conceded? Leave the arena and go home. Please, don’t let troublemakers hijack this noble cause,” she urged.
Kilobi also warned against the potential descent into chaos, citing the examples of Somalia and Sudan. She called on young influencers to advocate for peace and patience, reinforcing the message that while change takes time, it is crucial to preserve Kenya’s stability.
“Young people, the President has listened to us, and he’s ready to engage further. Please give him the chance! It has been a challenging time for Kenya, but our message has been heard. Let’s allow the President the time to act. We all aspire to see a better Kenya,” she concluded, appealing for the youth to refrain from further protests and give the government a chance to address their concerns
