Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Brutal Murder of Magistrate’s Daughter
In a landmark ruling, the High Court in Chuka, Meru County, has sentenced Benson Kimathi Marangu to 40 years in prison after he was found guilty of the cold-blooded murder of Marybel Kapolon, the daughter of a magistrate.
The crime, which shook the community in 2018, involved the kidnapping of the young girl, a Standard Four pupil at Consolata Primary School, Meru, as she was on her way home from school.
Tragically, her lifeless body was discovered buried in Gitoro Forest on September 22, 2018, a day after detectives collected samples from a vehicle believed to have been used in the abduction.
The chilling incident not only highlighted the dangers faced by innocent children but also sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity, given the victim’s family background.
Marangu’s accomplice, Francis Otundo, was convicted of threatening to kill the deceased. Although he was sentenced to five years in prison, he will not serve additional time, having already been in custody for the five years since the case’s prosecution began.
The case, prosecuted by Jane Maari and Erick Momanyi, stands as a somber reminder of the relentless pursuit of justice.
