Man Goes Missing Days After Landing New Job, Receiving Cash Gift

A Nairobi family is grappling with the mysterious disappearance of Fred Motosi, a 27-year-old father of two, who vanished shortly after his first day on a new job and receiving a cash gift from his sister in the United States. Motosi’s family has been frantically searching since October 9, 2024, when he failed to return home.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Motosi’s wife, Veronica Oruta, recounted her anxiety that evening. She explained that her husband, who had been unemployed for an extended period, had just secured the new position, bringing hope to their family. However, after finishing his first day at work, Motosi did not come home at his usual time.

“I waited until 8:00 pm, expecting him home, but he didn’t show up,” Oruta recalled. “I thought he might be with friends and would be back by 10:00 pm. When he wasn’t home by 11:00 pm, I began to worry.”

Oruta noted that Motosi had been carrying Ksh29,000, a portion of funds sent by his sister in the U.S. “He had Ksh29,000 with him. When someone has that much money, they can easily become a target,” she said, hinting at her concern that her husband might have been in danger because of the cash.

In a last conversation at 8:30 pm on the night of his disappearance, Motosi spoke briefly with his mother, assuring her that he was on his way home. “I called him and he said he was boarding a matatu from the stadium. That was the last I heard from him,” his mother recounted somberly.

Despite the family’s best efforts, they remain without answers. The disappearance was promptly reported at Umoja 2 Police Station, but the investigation has so far yielded little information. The family clings to hope as authorities continue their search.
