Man Admits to Murdering Girlfriend and Hiding Her in Cement for 16 Years
A shocking revelation has emerged in South Korea, as police arrested a man who confessed to murdering his girlfriend 16 years ago and concealing her body under a layer of cement on his balcony. The gruesome discovery was made by authorities following an investigation that has finally shed light on a cold case that began in 2008.
The accused, a man now in his 50s, reportedly admitted to killing his then-girlfriend during a heated argument in October 2008.
According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police and Geoje Police Station, he fatally struck the woman with a blunt object. In a chilling attempt to cover up his crime, he placed her body in a large travel bag, then concealed it by stacking bricks and pouring a four-inch layer of cement over the remains.
The victim wasn’t reported missing until three years later, as she had little contact with her family. When the police initiated a missing person inquiry in 2011, the man claimed they had broken up, leading the case to go unsolved due to insufficient evidence.
Further complicating the investigation, the small balcony where the body was hidden was essentially unused since 2016, when the man was arrested for unrelated drug charges. The property had since been rented out and primarily used for storage.
The shocking discovery was finally made last month when a worker searching for water leaks stumbled upon the travel bag containing the body. Investigators revealed that, despite the years that had passed, the body was “preserved to some extent,” allowing authorities to identify the victim through fingerprint analysis.
After being questioned by the police, the man eventually confessed to the crime, ending a 16-year-long mystery. An official from Gyeongnam Provincial Police confirmed that the investigation is nearing its conclusion, and the man will be handed over to prosecutors soon, finally bringing some closure to a case that has haunted the community for years.
