Lee Kinyanjui Denies Allegations of Abducting Street Children Are “Acts of Fiction”
During his Parliamentary vetting session, Investment, Trade, and Industry CS nominee Lee Kinyanjui vehemently denied allegations that he orchestrated the relocation of street families in Nakuru to forests in 2019.
Responding to North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood’s query, Kinyanjui dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated. “It is extremely wrong… If it’s about allegations, I can also come up with allegations about everyone else,” he remarked, visibly agitated by the accusations.
The former Nakuru Governor was accused of rounding up 41 street children and families, detaining them, and later dumping them in Embobut and Chemasusu Forests under harsh conditions. A Senate report presented in 2020 alleged this was part of efforts to beautify Nakuru for city status.
Kinyanjui defended his integrity, arguing that no credible evidence had ever been presented to support these claims. “This country has the best intelligence in the region. How is it possible that only politicians knew about these people? Which family has come forward to validate this narrative?” he questioned.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula intervened during the heated exchange, urging Kinyanjui to remain composed. “Just answer the questions the way they are asked. If it is not true, even a simple ‘No’ is sufficient,” Wetangula advised.
Kinyanjui alleged that the accusations stemmed from his political rivals’ attempts to tarnish his image. “Using unverified stories for political mileage undermines the credibility of institutions. Let’s be fair,” he stated.
The Senate report previously detailed accounts of street children allegedly abandoned in forests infested with wild animals, leading to the disappearance of some. Despite these reports, Kinyanjui maintains the accusations are a fabrication, insisting on his innocence.
